Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

The wait is over! The Volkswagen Arteon is arriving at dealerships this month. The upscale, powerful sleek design with innovative technology, and available 4Motion® all-wheel drive. The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon will be available in SE, SEL, and SEL Premium trim levels.

Exterior

The design captures a sport look with an upscale feel.

Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

The ambitious design is made possible by the flexible MQB architecture, which also gives the Arteon a completely different look than its CC predecessor. The wheelbase on the Arteon is more than five inches longer than the CC—111.7 inches compared to 106.7 inches—and is paired with shorter overhangs for more dynamic proportions. Arteon is 191.4 inches long, 73.7 inches wide and 56.5 inches tall. Thanks to a sophisticated overall aerodynamic package, the 2019 Arteon has a low 0.30 coefficient of drag.

All Arteon models feature standard LED headlights, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), and taillights. SEL models upgrade to LED headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), which adjusts the headlight beams to help compensate for dynamic changes, like deceleration and cornering, and feature power-folding side mirrors with memory.

A panoramic power-tilt-and-slide sunroof is standard equipment on SEL and SEL Premium models. Top-of-the-line SEL Premium models also feature a standard power trunk with Easy Open and Close function; drivers can simply walk up to the vehicle with their keys in a pocket or purse and kick a foot under the rear bumper to pop the trunk lid, while closing the trunk only requires a touch of the button. KESSY® keyless access is standard on all Arteon models.

Interior

Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

The long wheelbase afforded by the MQB architecture gives Arteon generous rear legroom, at 40.2 inches, with substantial headroom as well—37.7 inches in front, and 37.0 in the rear. Thanks to its fastback shaping, Arteon offers an SUV-like 27.2 cubic feet of trunk storage; with the standard 60:40 rear seats folded down, that number increases to 55 cubic feet.

The cabin has a modern design with premium materials. equipped with three-zone Climatronic® automatic climate control is standard across the Arteon range.

Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.

Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

The 12.3-inch screen replaces the traditional instrument panel, and the customizable digital display’s 1,440×540 pixel resolution renders details with extreme precision. There are five different information display profiles the driver can select:

  • Classic
  • Consumption & Range
  • Efficiency
  • Performance & Driver Assistance
  • Navigation.

In the Navigation profile, the speedometer and rev counter are relocated to the sides to make room for the navigation map in the middle. Information on driving, navigation and assistance functions can also be integrated into the speedometer and rev counter graphics as necessary. Data such as telephone contact images and CD covers can also be displayed in the Digital Cockpit display.

The Power

The all-new Arteon is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine, making 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The power is taken to the front wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® shifting; 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on SE and SEL models and standard on SEL Premium models.

The TSI engine features innovative solutions such as water-cooled exhaust gas routing through the cylinder head to the turbocharger (to help reduce full-load fuel consumption) and a dual injection system with direct and multi-port injection. Thanks to its fully electronic coolant control system, the four-cylinder engine also offers efficient thermal management with a short warm-up phase; this helps reduce friction and helps to decrease fuel consumption.

DCC®.

Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

The standard DCC adaptive damping system contributes to the balance between excellent handling and premium ride comfort by managing the suspension’s rebound and compression rates individually, helping to improve vehicle dynamics.

In addition, the Arteon is equipped with the XDS® cross-differential lock at the front and rear. The latest XDS+ version applies this functionality to a larger range of dynamic performance, helping make the vehicle more agile. When the car is being driven at highway speeds, brake pressure is applied to the inside wheel to help restore optimal traction as soon as the electronics detect excessively light loads. The XDS+ system operates like a limited-slip differential and can help compensate for understeer during cornering.

Driving Mode Selection

Courtesy of Volkswagen Media

For the first time in a Volkswagen DCC system, in addition to the familiar Driving Mode Selection featured programs (Comfort, Normal, Sport), the dampers on the Arteon can be adjusted across an expanded range through the individual settings submenu (Comfort+ to Sport+). Beyond the familiar Comfort setting, the driver can increase ride comfort of the Arteon even further by moving the control slider to the left into Comfort+, while a setting that is sportier than the familiar Sport setting can be set by moving the slider to the right, into Sport+. The driver can make adjustments between the Comfort, Normal and Sport profile, creating truly personalized settings.

4Motion All-wheel-drive System

Arteon can be equipped with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The latest-generation 4Motion system is activated before wheelspin occurs, helping eliminate traction losses. The system achieves this by using an advanced control function based on specific driving conditions. When operating under a relatively low load or when coasting, the front wheels are driven and the rear wheels are decoupled, helping to save fuel. However, the rear wheels can be engaged in fractions of a second whenever necessary via the center differential, which is activated by an electro-hydraulic oil pump.

Elegance is Soaring with the All-New 2020 Lincoln Corsair

Courtesy of Lincoln Media

Lincoln has released the all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair. This elegant small SUV is a stable in Lincoln luxury. The 2020 Corsair – inspired by the Latin word “cursus” meaning journey – enters the thriving small luxury SUV segment with its debut today at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.

“Entering the fastest-growing luxury segment, the all-new Corsair is artistically crafted, expertly designed and infused with our unwavering attention and commitment to detail; it’s unapologetically Lincoln,” says Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company.

“Corsair’s addition to the portfolio means Lincoln now has a full family of SUVs to exceed the needs of our luxury clients.”

Lincoln’s available Perfect Position seats offer 24-way adjustability, massage capability and additional lumbar support for the driver and front passenger. Second-row passengers will appreciate more legroom and flexibility thanks to the sliding seats that offer up to six inches of travel and a 60/40 fold-flat or split-bench option.

The Lincoln designers and engineers were dedicated to the interior of the Lincoln Corsair to create a sanctuary for the senses.

To ensure a quiet ride a dual-wall dashboard in the engine compartment provides an additional barrier between passengers and the engine. With this innovation, usually only found in larger vehicles, an air gap acts to keep vibrations out of the cabin. Active Noise Control enhances overall sound quality throughout.

Say goodbye to the beeps. Your alerts are equipped with six symphonic chimes to inform drivers of everything from an open fuel door to an unbuckled seat belt. The chimes, recorded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, add another layer to the calming soundscape of the cabin.

Personalized Technology

No more double checking for both your phone and your keys. With Phone As A Key technology, activated through the Lincoln Way™ app, owners can lock and unlock, open the liftgate and most importantly, start and drive Corsair with their compatible smartphone. The app does more than the standard key fob, drivers can create their own personal profile which allows the vehicle to automatically adjust up to 80 features to an owner’s preference including seat, mirror and pedal positions.

Phone Battery dead? No worries, drivers can use the vehicle’s standard exterior keypad to enter a backup code to gain access to Corsair, then use the center touch screen to initiate starting and driving the vehicle. If a client’s phone is lost or stolen, Phone As A Key can be easily deleted, providing peace of mind.

Lincoln Corsair comes with the standard driver-assist features known as Lincoln Co-Pilot360*. Providing Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking and Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, a Lane-Keeping System, rear backup camera and auto high-beam lighting.

An available upgrade, Lincoln Co-Pilot360™ Plus, adds:

  • Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist to help guide the vehicle using stop-and-go, lane centering technology and speed sign recognition, which scans speed limit signs along the roadway, adjusting speed based on the information obtained
  • Evasive steer assist offers assistance to the driver to help avoid a collision with a slower or stopped vehicle ahead; it provides additional steering support when a collision cannot be avoided by braking alone
  • Reverse brake assist can help stop the vehicle when backing up if Corsair’s integrated rear sensors detect an obstacle at the rear
  • Active Park Assist Plus removes the stress from parking by taking over steering, shifting, braking and acceleration functions with the touch of a button to navigate parallel and perpendicular parking spaces with ease

Everyone Gets to Stay Connected

With wireless charging for compatible mobile devices is located in the front-row armrest, while a convenient media bin is available for passengers in front as well. Multiple power outlets are located throughout, while standard Wi-Fi keeps all occupants connected.

The Power

Courtesy of Lincoln Media

Lincoln has two turbocharged four-cylinder engine options that are available. You may choose a standard 2.0-liter with a targeted 250 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque or a 2.3-liter with a targeted 280 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. Each is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission for agile performance.

Lincoln’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system, available with both engines, allows for enhanced all-weather capabilities and bold performance. The system’s all-wheel-drive disconnect capability switches automatically from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive in response to road, speed, temperature and other conditions.

“Every piece of technology has been purposefully integrated to work with you on your journey,” says John Jraiche, Corsair chief engineer. “It’s orchestrated to make your trip effortless by providing a nimble, confident drive.”

The drive can be further customized with five of Lincoln’s signature drive modes:

  • Conserve

So the driver can choose which mode is best for their destination.

Lincoln Aviator reveals the 28-Speaker Revel Ultima 3D System

Courtesy of Lincoln Media

Lincoln Motor Co. has revealed another enhanced development in the 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The Lincoln Aviator cabin gives you the concert hall experience with 28 speakers immersive sound system.

The Revel Ultima 3D sound system offers clients a choice between three listening modes – stereo, audience and on-stage. Allowing drivers to relax, unwind, and truly be surrounded in a sanctuary of sound. It takes the listening experience to a whole new dimension by adding an immersion control slider in the center stack and four sets of dual-height speakers in the Aviator’s headliner.

New Revel® Ultima 3D system offers a control slider in the center stack that allows clients to immerse themselves in sound, enjoying their music the way they want to hear it. Courtesy of Lincoln Media

The slider allows clients to personalize the audio experience by determining how much they want the music to envelop them in a cabin featuring 28 speakers. The addition of the height speakers allows for a 360-degree listening experience, transforming the Aviator cabin into a true concert hall for the road.

“With this new system, the listening experience is immersive and designed around the client no matter where they’re seated in the Aviator,” says Joe Kafati, multimedia supervisor, Lincoln. ”Our engineers obsessed over the interior quietness and sound quality in the vehicle, just like all other aspects to truly transform Aviator into a sanctuary on the road.”

Revel Ultima 3D technology breaks down walls, acoustically expanding the space in the cabin to transform the environment of the vehicle.

“Our goal is to break down walls,” says Brandon Wheeler, manager, customer acoustics, Revel. “As you increase the immersion, you find yourself inside an incredibly expansive listening environment – one that seems to extend beyond the vehicle interior. Guitars, left and right, are very wide. The vocals are incredible. It’s really changing the norm of what you’d expect from sound in terms of reinforcement and position.”

The additional speakers and immersion slider availability add to the already advanced modes:

  • In stereo mode, clients are sitting in the sweet spot between a pair of Revel Ultima speakers
  • In audience mode, clients enjoy the best seat in a concert hall as the stage widens in all directions
  • In on-stage mode, clients are seemingly on stage with the musical performance; immersed in 360-degree sound.

“Music is a mood changer – it relaxes you, rejuvenates you or energizes you based on music preferences,” says Kafati. “Music is a breather from a hectic day, and this audio system allows clients to tailor that experience and create their own world inside Aviator’s spacious and airy cabin.”

Ford F-150 Receives all Good Ratings from the IIHS

Thanks to the addition of a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine, the 2019 Ford F-150 Limited is the most powerful light-duty pickup in America.
Courtesy of Ford Media

The Reed Factor has some great Ford F-150 safety news you can use. If you are looking for a truck that has style, function, technology and good safety rating, then the 2019 Ford F-150 is likely the perfect match!

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released test results showing that among all light-duty crew cab pickups measured in small overlap front crash testing for both driver and passenger, the 2019 Ford F-150 is the only truck to earn its top-tier good rating in all categories. Among 11 pickups, F-150 is also on top as the best performer in passenger-side small overlap front crash testing.’

“F-150’s smart engineering, plus the innovative combination of its high-strength steel frame and high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body continues to demonstrate enduring customer benefits – from repeated class-leading crash test performance to best-in-class towing and payload,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford executive vice president, Product Development and Purchasing.

Ford created a system that works together to achieve an excellent result from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. These include a patented extruded aluminum roof crossmember and additional frame crossmember that work to improve crash resilience. Other smart innovations include nylon hinge pillar reinforcements that save weight, and in conjunction with specially designed wheel blockers, work to control crash forces while also providing additional safety.

This accolade follows National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing that awarded F-150 crew cab a five-star overall vehicle score and a five-star rating for driver and passenger for all crash test modes.
