Volkswagen and Volkswagen Credit (VCI) will defer payments for up to 90 days for existing VCI customers affected by the economic crisis.  Additional payment assistance options for customers in good standing include:

·   Up to 90-day payment deferrals without fees (VCI will not charge any fees but finance charges will still accrue for non-lease accounts)

“We know this pandemic has caused significant stress and worry across America, and is putting financial strain on millions of households,” said Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen of America. “We have a commitment to help our customers, our dealers, our employees and our communities in a time of crisis.”

“Our customers remain our focus,” said Anthony Bandmann, CEO and president, VCI. “We want to be a source of support and relief in these uncertain times.”

Volkswagen and VCI will also provide additional support to its more than 600 independent dealers to help them and their employees respond to the economic uncertainty. The support includes:

Ford Teams Up with 3M and GE Healthcare to Manufacture Medical Equipment, Supplies

The Reeds want to share some recent Ford news. During the time with COVID-19 concerns, it serves as a good reminder that we are all in this together. The Ford Motor Company, joining forces with firms including 3M and GE Healthcare, is lending its manufacturing and engineering expertise to quickly expand production of urgently needed medical equipment and supplies for healthcare workers, first responders and patients fighting coronavirus (COVID-19).

In addition, the American automaker says they plan to assemble more than 100,000 face shields per week and leverage its in-house 3D printing capability to produce components for use in personal protective equipment.

“This is such a critical time for America and the world. It is a time for action and cooperation. By coming together across multiple industries, we can make a real difference for people in need and for those on the front lines of this crisis,” said Bill Ford, Ford’s executive chairman. “At Ford, we feel a deep obligation to step up and contribute in times of need, just as we always have through the 117-year history of our company.”

Powering Air-Purifying Respirators

The Ford team is working with 3M to increase the manufacturing capacity of their powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) designs and working jointly to develop a new design leveraging parts from both companies to meet the surge demand for first responders and health care workers. This new respirator could be produced in a Ford facility by UAW workers.

To go as fast as possible, the Ford and 3M teams have been resourcefully locating off-the-shelf parts like fans from the Ford F-150’s cooled seats for airflow, 3M HEPA air filters to filter airborne contaminants such as droplets that carry virus particles and portable tool battery packs to power these respirators for up to eight hours.

Ford is looking at how it might produce these new-generation PAPRs in one of its Michigan manufacturing facilities, helping 3M boost production potentially tenfold.

“Working with 3M and GE, we have empowered our teams of engineers and designers to be scrappy and creative to quickly help scale up production of this vital equipment,” said Jim Hackett, Ford’s president and CEO. “We’ve been in regular dialogue with federal, state and local officials to understand the areas of greatest needs. We are focusing our efforts to help increase the supply of respirators, face shields and ventilators that can help assist health care workers, first responders, critical workers as well as those who have been infected by the virus.”

“We’re exploring all available opportunities to further expand 3M’s capacity and get healthcare supplies as quickly as possible to where they’re needed most – which includes partnering with other great companies like Ford,” said Mike Roman, 3M chairman of the board and chief executive officer. “It’s crucial that we mobilize all resources to protect lives and defeat this disease, and I’m incredibly grateful to Ford and their employees for this partnership.”

Ventilator Manufacturing

Ford and GE Healthcare is also are working together to expand production of a simplified version of GE Healthcare’s existing ventilator design to support patients with respiratory failure or difficulty breathing caused by COVID-19. These ventilators could be produced at a Ford manufacturing site in addition to a GE location.

“We are encouraged by how quickly companies from across industries have mobilized to address the growing challenge we collectively face from COVID-19,” said GE Healthcare President & CEO Kieran Murphy. “We are proud to bring our clinical and technical expertise to this collaboration with Ford, working together to serve unprecedented demand for this life-saving technology and urgently support customers as they meet patient needs.”

Work on this initiative ties to a request for help from U.S. government officials.

Medical Respirators and Face Shields

Meanwhile, Ford’s United States design team also is quickly creating and starting to test transparent full-face shields for medical workers and first responders. The face shields fully block the face and eyes from accidental contact with liquids and when paired with N95 respirators can be a more effective way to limit potential exposure to coronavirus than N95 respirators alone.

The first 1,000 face shields will be tested this week at Detroit Mercy, Henry Ford Health Systems and Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospitals. Roughly 75,000 of these shields are expected to be finished this week and more than 100,000 face shields per week will be produced at Ford subsidiary Troy Design and Manufacturing’s facilities in Plymouth, Mich.

Ford is leveraging its Advanced Manufacturing Center in Redford, Mich., and in-house 3D printing capabilities to manufacture components and subassemblies for use in personal protective equipment.

The auto company is evaluating a separate effort not involving GE Healthcare with the U.K. government to produce additional ventilators.

In China, Ford of China joint venture partner Jiangling Motors also has donated 10 specially equipped Transit ambulance vans to hospitals in Wuhan, where the coronavirus outbreak began. Ford is also reacquiring 165,000 N95 respirators from China that were originally sent by Ford to China earlier this year to help combat coronavirus.

Ford has also kicked off a working team to help hospitals locate and secure urgently needed surgical and N95 respirators. Ford has so far committed sending Henry Ford Health Systems 40,000 surgical masks while it locates additional supplies.

For companies and individuals who are interested in contributing to this effort,  they can submit their information here at www.fordnewideas.com.

Ford, along with the companies it is supporting, will provide additional updates as these special projects progress.

World Class Automotive Group Announces Multiple Ford & Volkswagen Dealership Awards

The World Class Automotive Group has announced a number of their dealership locations have earned multiple highly coveted awards, including the Ford Triple Crown and Ford President’s Award. In addition, the auto group’s Volkswagen dealership has received the Wolfsburg Crest Club honor for excellence in sales and customer service.

Ford Top Honors

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Humble, Planet Ford in Spring and Prestige Ford in Garland are all repeat recipients of the Ford’s highest honors, the Triple Crown and President’s Awards. The Texas-based dealerships are among a select and leading group of Ford dealerships to receive these prestigious recognitions by Ford Motor Company.

These sought-after distinctions distinguish the top-dealerships that have excelled in automotive retailing by providing exceptional service and customer satisfaction. The Triple Crown is garnered by only one percent of dealerships. To be recognized, each dealership is required to receive all of Ford’s top awards, which include the President’s Award for customer service, being selected as a Ford Elite based on vehicle sales, and making the Ford Customer Service Premiere Club.

“We are incredibly proud of our World Class Automotive Group family!” said Randall Reed, CEO of World Class Automotive Group and Reed Family Enterprises. “These are difficult awards to achieve once, and to earn these elite accolades year after year is nothing short of amazing. It is a testament to our entire teams’ ongoing daily commitment to providing the best customer experience for our friends, neighbors, and community,” he added.

Planet Ford in Humble, Texas has earned the Triple Crown and President’s Award an astounding eight years in a row. Planet Ford in Spring, Texas has earned multiple Triple Crown and President’s Awards since 2010. It is also the No. 1 dealership in the Houston area for  the past 18 years.* Prestige Ford in Garland, Texas has earned eight-consecutive President’s Awards and multiple back-to-back Triple Crown Awards since 2001.

In addition to winning the Triple Crown and President’s Award, all locations also received the Partners in Quality Award and Elite Dealer status for 2019. Many of these honors are generated by surveys from the costumer’s service experience. For example, in order to achieve the President’s Award, a dealership must exceed customer expectations in every single department.

These Ford Motor Company awards salute only the top-performing Ford dealerships that embrace the company’s philosophies and achieve excellent levels of customer satisfaction – in both sales and service.

Volkswagen Highest Recognition

For the second consecutive year, McKinney Volkswagen, located in McKinney, Texas, has received the Wolfsburg Crest Club honor from Volkswagen of America. This is an elite recognition for an exclusive group of dealerships who have met Volkswagen stringent standards in both sales and service.

“We are thrilled to be receiving this recognition for the second year in a row,” said Kaleb Garcia, General Manager and Managing Partner at McKinney Volkswagen. “While this is a difficult honor to achieve, we believe it is just part of the many rewards for a daily job well done.” He added, “When you have a team that is passionate about helping people, loves cars, and works hard; it will lead to an award-winning experience every time.”

In order to qualify the Wolfsburg Crest Club, a dealership must provide excellence in new vehicle sales, certified pre-owned sales, customer service, and satisfaction. Points are awarded for parts sales, following proper operating standards, and overall facility excellence.

“All of these awards are even more important to us because they are based on our customers’ feedback and their level of satisfaction,” said Shelby Reed, co-owner of the dealership group and President of Reed Family Enterprises. “We believe in caring for our customers like one of our own. As a family-owned dealership, we are thankful to have a team that believes in and carries out that philosophy by delivering consistent, award-winning service.”

Sherry Reed, co-owner, agreed. “We’re thankful to have wonderful customers and for a team that helps us attain this high level of satisfaction every day. Our family and our dealership family feel blessed to be able to help our community with their automotive needs, and awards like this make us all the more grateful.”

Ford GT Improved for 2020 with increased Horsepower and Engine Cooling

Hang on… we have some fast news from the Reed Factor. How beautiful is this restyled Gulf Racing heritage livery GT that pays homage to Ford’s 1969 Le Mans?

Ford Performance announces upgrades to the Ford GT supercar for 2020, including increased engine power to 660 horsepower and improved cooling.

Much of the 2020 Ford GT’s advancements are a result of Ford’s continuous technological innovation, especially GT’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost® twin-turbo V6.

“Ford GT continues to be the pinnacle of Ford performance,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “GT is always the ultimate expression of Ford racing innovation, and as we know from the 1966 Le Mans through today, that means constantly raising our game for our customers as well as earning the checkered flag.”

Continuous EcoBoost Innovation

Beyond 13 additional horsepower compared to 2017-19 GT supercars, the 2020 GT’s EcoBoost engine features a broader torque band and revised engine calibration plus mechanical upgrades that include gallery-cooled pistons and higher-energy ignition coils, thanks to lessons learned from the limited-edition, track-only GT Mk II.

Additional engine cooling and airflow updates includes new buttress air ducts designed to increase air flow by 50 percent while larger intercoolers keep charge air temperatures cooler, preserving peak power for the most strenuous, high-temperature sessions at the track. Suspension damping is increased in track mode to further enhance handling and body control, particularly for those high-speed transient sections of closed-course circuits.

New Standard Akrapovič titanium exhaust
Ford Performance is also introducing the premium Akrapovič titanium exhaust as standard equipment for GT. Boasting the signature craftsmanship of these renowned race experts, this exhaust provides a nine-pound weight savings over the previous system while featuring that deeply resonant, unmistakable sound emanating from the more powerful EcoBoost engine.

Liquid Carbon

Photos Ford Motor Company

Newly available Ford GT Liquid Carbon places an emphasis on GT’s lightweight sculpted carbon fiber body completely free of paint color. A special clearcoat punctuates each GT’s unique carbon fiber weave in this limited-edition appearance option.

“This next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to fully demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fiber craftsmanship and finishing,” said Angus Smith, General Manager of Multimatic Niche Vehicles, North America. “The results of this ongoing partnership between Multimatic and Ford Performance speak for themselves, as each visually stunning and unique Liquid Carbon GT is a manufacturing marvel, showcasing the characteristics and nuances inherent in carbon fiber composites.”

Ford GT Liquid Carbon features carbon fiber wheels as standard equipment. Owners can choose titanium lugnuts, six-point racing harness anchors, five interior options and five caliper colors. Further personalization is available through two over-the-top stripe options – the dual center stripes offered on the standard Ford GT or the single stripe found on the Carbon Series as well as optional painted mirror caps. Stripes and mirror caps are available in any of the seven standard paint colors as well as the extended color palette. For the first time, these features can be ordered independently of one another.

Updated Gulf Racing Heritage Livery

Ford Performance is also updating GT’s iconic heritage livery with a new design that includes a black pinstripe to divide the distinct blue and orange colors, recalling the 1968-69 Le Mans-winning GT40. The optional carbon fiber number switches from 9 on the 2019 model to 6 for 2020, matching that of the historic back-to-back winning car, chassis No. 1075. For the first time on a heritage model, carbon fiber wheels are available in lieu of aluminum alloy.

“Our team is very focused on delivering a car that exceeds customer expectations,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “The black pinstripe and carbon fiber wheels have been highly requested with the Gulf livery, so we committed to making that happen.”

Deliveries of the upgraded 2020 Ford GT are ongoing, with production wrapping up in 2022.

XLT Sport Appearance Package Makes a Return to Ford Explorer

Explorer lineup over the years. Photos Ford Media Company.

America’s all-time best-selling SUV* is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. And this month the 8 millionth Explorer will be purchased by a customer. What better way to celebrate than with a new appearance package.

In Summer 2021, Ford will debut the new XLT Sport Appearance Package. The more upscale look includes premium wheels, premium ActiveX seating and door surfaces, and satin silver interior surfaces. 2020 Explorer XLT customers can now opt for enhanced satin silver dash and door details. The 400-horsepower Ford Explorer ST — proving there is a growing market for performance SUVs – is surpassing sales expectations and attracting new customers trading-in luxury brand vehicles.

The popular Explorer ST accounts for 21 percent of overall Explorer sales, with nearly 28 percent of non-Ford trade-ins coming from luxury brands. In addition, Explorer ST is helping Explorer retain its title as America’s all-time best-selling SUV, according to Ford analysis of new light vehicle registration data from IHS Markit.

“Ford ST stands for performance for enthusiasts, and Explorer ST is no exception,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager. “We believe once drivers feel the power and refinement of our first-ever Explorer ST, performance bred from racetracks around the world, demand will only grow stronger.”

Redesigned from the ground up for 2020, Explorer’s rear-wheel-drive architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on- and off-road capability, and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when equipped the trailer tow package and the available 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine, which makes this the most powerful Explorer ever. Customers can now opt for enhanced dash and door details, including satin silver accents and richer surfaces for the instrument panel, steering wheel and switches.

XLT Sport Appearance Package Makes a Return

Ford is adding a new XLT Sport Appearance Package this summer for the 2021 Explorer, featuring unique Carbonized Gray-painted 20-inch wheels with matching grille, skid plates and hood lettering, and finished with dual chrome exhaust tips.

Interior highlights include unique ActiveX Light Slate two-tone seats with accent stitching, matching the center console lid and door trim panels. Previous offerings of this popular appearance package accounted for one of every four Explorer XLT models sold and returns as more young SUV buyers are entering the showroom.

“Our Sport Appearance Package offers a new styling dimension for Explorer XLT customers,” said Patterson. “It has always been a favorite among our younger customers looking for a more energetic design and feel at a great value.”

Happy 30th anniversary and 8-millionth Ford Explorer sold

Ford Explorer celebrates 30 years, retaining America’s all-time best-selling SUV title. Ford also sold its 8 millionth Explorer in January – a milestone no other SUV can claim. Ford innovated with its highly capable, family-oriented 4×4 featuring four doors and plenty of cargo room in 1990, redefining the sport-utility segment.

“Ford changed the game three decades ago with the civilized, all-purpose utility vehicle refined with easy-to-use electronic 4×4 controls and luxury packages like the Eddie Bauer edition,” said Patterson. “Families flocked to the new platform, leaving their boring minivans behind – and we’re seeing history repeat itself all over again.”

The trend continues as Ford Explorer remains a strong choice for young adults. Eighteen percent of new Explorer buyers are 18 to 35 years old, while 46 percent are 36 to 55 years old, marking a strong new chapter for the adventure-ready Ford Explorer.

*According to Ford analysis of new vehicle registration data from IHS Markit. Note: Horsepower rating based on premium fuel per SAE J1349® standard. Individual customer results may vary.

Ford Bronco: Prototype Testing Now Underway

The Reed Factor has been writing about the soon-to-return Ford Bronco for years. Now, it looks like it may actually becoming a reality.

There are a lot of enthusiastic customers who have long been waiting for the upcoming Ford Bronco 4×4. So here is a look at Ford is doing to get the Bronco ready.

Ford engineers are hard at work ensuring it is ready to take on the wild. In the high desert of California, Ford experts are busy testing and proving out the all-new Bronco’s powertrain and rugged chassis, which is based on the company’s fully-boxed, body-on-frame global T6 architecture, in an experimental prototype vehicle.

In the Mojave Desert’s Johnson Valley, home to such punishing motorsports series as King of the Hammers, the Bronco prototype is being pushed to its limits off-road in grueling conditions crawling up rocks and racing across sand. Good thing that Ford built the Bronco ready for that.

The all-new sixth generation of America’s original “sports utility vehicle,” makes its world premiere this spring. Stay tuned to The Reed Factor for more updates!

Ford is celebrating this legacy the legacy of GT350 past with a new limited-edition 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition Package.

A year before Ken Miles set lap records at Le Mans in Ford’s famed GT40, the noted race car driver and engineer made waves on the track in the first 1965 Mustang Shelby GT350 fastback coupe.
