The Ford Focus is one of only six small cars that were tested that actually earned top marks from the IIHS. This is not the first time that the Ford Focus  has been recognized for their commitment to vehicle safety. It has also earned the federal government’s highest  rating – a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Steve Kenner, global director of Ford’s Automotive Safety Office said, “Ford is committed to designing vehicles that help keep people safe. We are constantly seeking innovative ways to help drivers avoid accidents and keep occupants safe when an incident does occur.”

According to Ford, he body structure of the vehicle is engineered to be “highly protective” utilizing extensive use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels. Boron steel in the Focus’ structure absorbs and redirects crash forces to protect vehicle occupants in the event of a crash.

There are also a number of features that focus on safety, such as the standard MyKey® technology, an Ford exclusive. MyKey is ideal for families with teen drivers. Parents can program it to limit audio volume, limit the car’s top spee, and to encourage teens to wear their seat belt with the use of chimes and by muting the radio if the front-row safety belts aren’t buckled.
