Driving a car with a manual transmission for the first time can be a little tricky, but like anything else, with a little practice it’s easy to get the hang of. When you get behind the wheel of a new car with a manual transmission, you will notice the stick shift usually in the center of the car by the console. This gives you the control of shifting gears, but there’s another crucial part on the car that makes this work: the clutch. That’s the 3rd pedal next to your gas and brake pedals.
You push down on that clutch when you want to shift from gear to gear, and this maintains a proper balance between engine power and your transmission. I found a great video that will explain the basics of how a manual transmission works, and I think after you watch it, you will have a better understanding of how to drive a stick shift.
